Alex Heaps Occupational Therapy (AHOT) specialises in providing community-based occupational therapy to individuals who have experienced an acquired brain injury. We believe in positive risk-taking and thinking creatively with our clients to develop value-based rehabilitation goals. We are experienced in delivering rehabilitation in clients' homes, in the community, or in the workplace.
AHOT accepts individual referrals and also has extensive experience working on medico-legal cases and providing treatment throughout the litigation process. We are experienced in working on complex cases with a wider multi-disciplinary team and working in an interdisciplinary approach, supporting clients to navigate through their rehabilitation journey.

Alex Heaps qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2009 from Brunel University. He has always had a passion for working with survivors of brain injuries and has worked throughout his career in this area.
Alex worked for 10 years in the NHS including holding the post of Clinical Specialist OT in Major Trauma at Kings College Hospital and Clinical Specialist OT at the Lishman Unit, a specialist neurobehavioral rehabilitation unit, which is part of South London and Maudsley NHS trust. He has also worked in the areas of acute neurorehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, Hands therapy, Critical Care and neurological outpatients.
Alex began working as an independent occupational therapist in brain injury rehabilitation in 2015. He worked as an associate for a well-known company primarily in London until setting up Alex Heaps – Occupational Therapy in 2022.
In the private sector, Alex has developed a specialism in working with on medico-legal cases with adults who have complex needs. He has extensive experience working on complex cases with clients who have struggled to participate in rehabilitation and recognises the multi-factorial nature of survivors presentations and the importance of formulation.
Outside of his clinical work, Alex constantly trying to evolve his skills and contribute to his profession. He completed an MSc in 2022 and will begin working toward his PhD in 2024.
